"I look at you all, see the love there that's sleeping While my guitar gently weeps. I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping Still my guitar gently weeps. I don't know why nobody told you, how to unfold your love I don't know how someone controlled you. They bought and sold you.
I look at the world, and I notice it's turning While my guitar gently weeps. From every mistake we must surely be learning And still my guitar gently weeps. I don't know how you were diverted You were perverted too. I don't know how you were inverted No one alerted you.
I look at you all, see the love there that's sleeping While my guitar gently weeps. Look at you all... Still my guitar gently weeps."
-lyrics of the original song-
This song, "While my guitar gently weeps", is a version of a song by George Harrison, performed by the brilliant guitarist Jeff Healey. You can find it in the album "Platinum & Gold Collection" by The Jeff Healey Band, edited in 2004.
Norman Jeff Healey (March 25th 1966-March 2th 2008) has been a brilliant guitarist. His style mixed jazz, blues, rock... He was born in Toronto (Canada). When he was less than 1 year old, he lost his sight due to a retinoblastoma (a cancer of the eyes). Healey fought against this terrible illness all his life, until the cancer killed him when he was 41 years old.
Healey was a fan of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Clapton... Without a doubt, these artists were a big influence in his work. When he was only 6 years old, he made his debut.
We will never forget his powerful way of playing, with the guitar flat on his lap.
Great piece. I've always been inspired by Jeff Healey. I have a lot of respect and admiration for people with disabilities who don't let that hold them from reaching for their dreams. As a guitar player myself, I found his style and abilities to be incredible, and when I found out he was blind it just blew my mind. It really shows how having a connection to the universe through music can transcend all things.
